wedding fever

Last week I went to my first bachelorette party. It was for a friend of a friend, we all wore yellow to distinguish ourselves and after Thursday at the Square we took Chippewa by storm (complete with all our silly props: a pretty princess mirror, a plastic flute and a magical wand among other things). The next day in a completely different ceremony, my friend Jessie got married in the rose garden at Delaware Park. She and her now husband are finishing grad school in the midwest and then heading to the Peace Corps, so in keeping with that spirit it was a green wedding, which meant simplicity, less waste and evidently no meat.
Oh man, do I really have friends getting married?!

Life sneaks up on us, doesn't it? Marriage, kids, unexpected deaths, deployments... Remember the days when the most significant events of our lives were Thirsty Thursdays?
Army life treats me well. The monotony of many of the days has brought a new focus and discipline of thought that one would expect. But there is a haunting emptiness that I cannot escape.
