graduations

Congratulations to my graduating siblings! Last month Mollie graduated from Nardin Academy with a ceremony at the UB Center for the Arts. Laurie flew in from California to attend it and she and I "greeted" Mollie on stage, as per Nardin tradition with alumnae sisters. And on Friday Paul graduated from St. Mark's School, where he was honored with the drama dept. award. That marks the last of four Riester kids at the school which started with me back around 1988. It was a good run!

Cheers to both of them!

(Extra note: In the fall, Mollie will be a freshman at the University of Connecticut and Paul will also be a freshman at Canisius High School.)

moving up

Well, I haven't written a post in some time because I've been in the process of moving, which is never easy and/or fun. There were a few reasons for this move but the one I will take time to mention was that it was out of sheer annoyance for my ex-landlord, Stephen C. Townsend (Nickel City Management), who for lack of a more poetic description is a total douche-bag. Hopefully some Buffalo renter will see this post and learn what a pain in the ass he is, and choose not to rent from him!

Although that situation is crappy, I will miss a few things about my old apartment, mainly that is was a great venue for parties. My friends and I gave the Brokedown Palace a fitting goodbye with a great, empty house party where we reinstated the Summer White's theme and brought flip cup tournaments in the selerium to a new level. It was an overall good time.

My new place is much nicer and managed by a landlord who lives right downstairs. There were a lot of challenges moving into this place though, the biggest of which was that my sofa wouldn't fit up the narrow entrance way and in the process of moving it we broke a leaded glass window in the hallway. I thought I was dead for sure until Jim from Six Dimension Design came over and saved my life, doing a fantastic job with the window. In addition to that, he was totally fun to meet and he even brought me flowers to welcome me to the street. So even though moving sucked, things ended up pretty sweet.
