thanksgiving weekend bar crawl

Thanksgiving weekend is consistantly a huge party week for Buffalonians. Here's the eventual run down:

Wednesday
Venue: Frizzy's, Fahrety's
Method: Sabres win (7-4 vs. the Leafs), flask of rum in my purse, good company
Conclusion: When we showed up at Fahrety's, Martha and I were declared as 'at our own party' which is a nice way of telling someone wasted that they don't know what the fuck is going on.

Friday
Venue: Mohawk Place
Method: Interpol, Gorillaz, The Smiths, Joy Division
Conclusion: No one was able to go with me to this month's indie dance night so I decided to go alone. Turned out to be a great time; within the first hour I ran into my friend Brian and made some new friends on the dance floor.

Saturday
Venue: Schwach household - Snyder
Method: Ice shots, spontaneous dance parties, Hockey Night in Canada
Conclusion: We decided to wrap up an exhausting weekend with a mellow house party but we ended up dancing it up well into the night.

lecture at the church

I forgot to mention that I went to a lecture at Ani DiFranco's Church a couple weeks ago. It was my first time in The Church and I thought it was beautifully remodeled, from the restored woodworking to the quirky color selection. The addition of Hallwalls art gallery in the back is equally fantastic.

Leanne Shear, an author and Nardin graduate, gave a lecture about her experience writing her first novel. I met Leanne at a wedding over the summer - she's a lovely person and I really enjoyed hearing her speak.

Now, when is Ani going to play at The Church?

my gram

Thank you to everyone who sent condolences after my grandmother passed away.

Gram was always a constant in my family's everyday life. We lived with her or right across the street from her for most of my life, making her in many ways the seventh member of our household. I'm glad my family was able to always be close to her, share time with her and to be there as she became frail in her later years. And I'm happy that she and I could be roommates for a while too.

She is very missed.

halloween

All of my Halloween celebrating this year got packed into one night at our Haunted Mansion party. Had a bunch of costumed people over for festivities at my apartment, which was appropriately cobweb-ed and candlelit. I wore a nurse's costume that I've been holding onto from a few Halloweens ago. Not particularly creative but at least people knew what I was this year which was an upgrade from last year.

On Halloween night I went over to my parents' house and handed out candy to the tons of trick-or-treaters they had. There were so many this year that we actually ran out of candy and had to hand out change!
