tragically hip

Went up to Toronto with friends to see The Tragically Hip. Now I just saw the Hip at Artpark in Lewiston, NY last week and they played a really similar set all in all, but the difference here is seeing a band in their "hometown". Toronto to the Hip is like Ani to Buffalo; the band does it up and the crowd makes it great. We got so close I could practically reach out and touch them. Plus, Jim the 7 foot giant put me on his shoulders a couple times so I had an amazing view.

After dragging Michelle out of the venue, taxi issues and then catching a picture with a couple cross dressing men, we drunk ate sushi (?) and took a trip to the Canadian ballet. Jeff and I couldn't stop serenading each other with Toto's soaring ballad, "Africa" and things degenerated from there. "It's gonna take some time to top this weeeeeeeeeeeekeeeeeeeeend"

kibarashi

The Friday night order:

1 dozen steamed clams
1 dozen clams casino
1 dozen crawfish
1 miso soup
1 specialty eel roll
3 pieces of salmon
1 piece of yellowtail

The verdict on Kirabashi: The fish tasted great. The staff was more than accomodating. But the rolls fell apart and the miso soup was disappointing. Overall, it's an okay sushi joint for the price you pay.

kill your tv

Fitting into the new surroundings nicely. All of my day to day needs have been transported to the apartment; everything else is just a luxury. I'm learning to occupy myself without a computer or a tv. It's amazing how much you can get done when you don't have those things around. Overnight I've become a total neat freak. This is efficently like I've never seen before. Unfortunately I'm running out of drawers to line and boxes to cut up, so it's time to get back into the 21st century.

Kelly put it well when she described our current living condition as "college-like"; being able to walk to your friend's place, to the bar, to the grocery or drug store is most excellent. One downer though is that Latina's, our neighborhood grocery store, is a sorry excuse for Wegmans. I don't know how I ever thought I could replace Weggies, my one true love. Furthermore, the pop machine in Latina's gave me an ultimatum: order a grape soda or sacrifice your buck and a quarter because there's nothing left, bitch. I hardly like being bossed around by pop machines, or drinking grape soda for that matter.

it all began

I'm converting the weekly / monthly updates on my website to this blog. Mostly it's for nostaliga's sake, because I'd like to be able to archive the postings like I couldn't or didn't do before. Also, dealing with the Michigan State ftp is a pain in the ass and should be avoided at all costs.

In short I have:

1) started a new job (www.jrvisuals.com)
2) moved into a new apartment

Also:

Was down in Ithaca for five days to see Laurie graduate and move her home from college. Running around town celebrating the Sabres until their untimely loss to Carolina in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Painting my bedroom beige and purple. Kickin' it with Mike Doughty at Thursday in the Square.
